Pityriasis amiantacea or better known as Tinea amiantacea is a severe condition similar to eczema where the scalp gets flaky skin resulting in major hair loss. The greatest risk one bears while suffering from PA is wrong diagnosis., because most of the time the physicians mix it up with psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis or lichen planus. Few conditions which cause Pityriasis amiantacea are scalp psoriasis, seborrhoeic eczema, atopic eczema.
Symptoms include thick silver-yellow scales that adhere to scalp and hair. A fine resemblance of asbestos is seen due to which the word amiantacea was coined.
